While Jeffrey J. Fox’s classic book “How to Become a Rainmaker: The Rules for Getting and Keeping Customers and Clients” may seem old timey today, I believe the ideas are still relevant.
Anyway, one of the tips from Fox’s book is the list of “Ten Things to Do Today to Get Business.” Of course, you can adjust these to fit today’s communication tools (or not – perhaps a “clipped” article would get noticed!).
So without further ado, here is your list of “Ten Things to Do Today to Get Business”:
- Send a handwritten note.
- Clip and send an article of interest.
- Talk to a satisfied client and ask who else you might help.
- Send a thank-you gift to someone who referred you.
- Give your business card to someone with influence.
- Send a letter to the editor of a magazine your customers read.
- Add fifteen people to your mailing list.
- Leave a compelling voice mail.
- Make an appointment.
- Call a client you haven’t talked to in years.
Rainmakers do something every day to help their company get new business.
Did you notice a couple of things that are … “missing”…? (HInt: “Write a blog post” and “Tweet.”) Hmmm. Just a harmless observation …
I think I’ll get started on my “Ten Things.” How about you?
